Why Visibility Requires More Than Just Social Media

Ask a new business owner how they plan to gain visibility for their business, and almost all will say social media. And for good reason- it gives you the opportunity to reach thousands of people each day from all over the world, sparking conversations and forming connections.

Social media undoubtedly remains one of the best ways to drive brand awareness.

But relying on one channel alone isn’t always enough to sustain long-term growth. Keeping up with changing algorithms, constant posting and interacting can be exhausting. Your business is at the whim of the tech bros.

Good content strategy goes beyond social media. It’s about creating an ecosystem that feeds itself, where if you lose one part, the rest picks up the slack.

Today, I want to share how my client, Kay, recognised this need and how you can take inspiration from her story.

Meet Kay

Kay is one of those people you instantly warm to. She’s vibrant, caring, and entirely genuine- the kind of person you can’t help but love.

Back in 2013, when she started her business, that warmth and energy helped her build loyal followings on Instagram and Facebook. For years, that was enough to keep her business thriving.

But in recent times, things began to change.

The Shift Kay Noticed

Kay started to notice that something was afoot.

While her business was still strong, the flow of new leads wasn’t quite what it used to be.

The reality is that today’s customers take longer to commit. They need multiple touchpoints with your business before making a decision. They want to see consistency, proof, and trust built over time.

Kay realised she didn’t want to rely on social media to run her business anymore. She needed to diversify her content strategy.

Building a Broader Visibility Strategy

Podcasts for New Audiences

Before I came to work with Kay, she had already landed a spot on a local podcast, where she was able to share her story, values, and expertise with an audience she might never have reached otherwise.

SEO-Friendly Blog Content

In terms of building a wider audience across the whole of the UK, Kay knew she wanted to focus a little more on SEO, so I put together a couple of SEO-optimised blog posts for her.

These not only focused on keywords in search, but also answered some of her audience’s frequently asked questions. This helped to build authority in search, and acted as a practical guide for her audience, so that by the time that they get in touch with her, their questions are often answered, and they already know that they want to work with her.

Email Check-Ins

Kay reconnected with her email list ahead of the school holidays. This simple step, at a key time of year for her business, reminded her most engaged audience of some of the services they might not even know she offered!

Why a Content Ecosystem Matters

Here’s the hard truth: building visibility is hard work.

Doing it all on your own can feel overwhelming, especially when you’re also running the day-to-day of your business.

But just like Kay, you don’t have to do it alone. With the right support, you can create a system that keeps your business visible—without it draining all your time and energy.

What Kay Had to Say

I’ll leave you with Kay’s own words about our work together:

“Lucy was an absolute pleasure to work with. During our Zoom call she took the time to understand my business and what my requirements were. The booking system was simple to use. The [content] Lucy wrote [was] brilliant. I have already recommended her to other small business owners.”

Ready to Build Your Own Content Ecosystem?

Kay’s story is proof that you don’t have to settle for the ups and downs of social media. By diversifying your visibility strategy, you can reach new audiences, nurture your existing ones, and build a sustainable foundation for growth.

And the best part? You don’t have to do it all yourself.
